Comment:

 I saw the -ENOSYS but that code path is separate than the main data
 handling path. What we need is a sideband method to handle this. One
 possibility is to use the same approach we use in the rfkill interface
 where we force a powerdown of the slot. This could be done by having the
 timeout handler kick off a separate task to run similar code, but I'm
 wondering if there's someway to simply trigger the rfkill itself from the
 kernel _or_ if we can somehow figure out from userspace that the card has
 gone nutty and needs a kick?
