 olpc-utils pulls the terminal keytable from XKB in the manner:

 KERN_KEYTABLE=`echo "$XKB_LAYOUT" |  cut -d , -f 1`
 }}}

 This value is then called by loadkeys, which promptly load up the maps in
 the qwerty directory.
