 right.  and sometimes it's the unskilled developer who would rather not
 have lost critical information because their logs were truncated. :-)  i
 see no reason to unduly constrain /var/log.  i don't even think it needs
 to be 48M -- but 1M is tiny.   i'll change it to 15M soon unless i hear
 objections.
