Similar to #9458, on os108, makewhatis is present and is activated by
anacron (which is run daily if AC power is present, but checked hourly by
crond).
makewhatis costs very little; only 1.2 seconds of run time, since there
are no manual pages, but this cost can be amplified by number of units,
and makewhatis is not actually needed here.
There are other daily autonomous tasks inherited from Fedora ...
logrotate, mlocate aka updatedb (17sec), prelink (disabled), readahead,
rpm (7sec), tmpwatch. There are also weekly and monthly tasks that don't
appear to take significant time.
anacron and crond might not be the only source of autonomous processing.
A survey of autonomous processing may be of benefit.
