Comment:

 Tested on os108, changed .i18n file, started Gnome desktop, "Unable to
 keep Input Method running" appeared on a yellow background on the bottom
 right of the display.  The explanatory text was:

 "Giving up to bring the process up because Main Input Method process for
 SCIM rapidly died many times. See .imsettings.log for more details."
