C1 hardware verified to no longer need the modified kernel. changes which
adapt this for C1-only have been committed as:
07b0c5e806fecb63feeeaf6f358aee35d8806416 . should appear in the first
build after os108.
behavior: external slot will honor the SD write-protect slider on C1
(i.e. mounts will be ro, or rw, as appropriate), but not on B3 or earlier
(rw always). internal slot will be mounted rw everywhere, regardless of
platform, or slider setting.
