 That's the serial number that was set by the factory.

 Presumably the 'fs-update' did that at the time of installing the next
 build.

 This happened three months ago.  I had no more such errors when I upgraded
 the os.

 I am now running with os107.  I am not going to go back to os33 - so I'll
 close this ticket.

 At the time when I wrote this ticket, I remembered mention of heat
 problems on the prototypes that affected errors showing up when using the
 (internal) SD card.  So when I saw (internal) SD card errors showing up
 while using my XO-1.5 B2, I thought maybe a record of what I saw might be
 of help to someone - and published the error messages I saw.

 But given the amount of developer-mystification that has resulted from
 situations I observe, from now on I intend to publish only the most clear-
 cut errors I notice.  If there happen to be actual problems behind
 ambiguous observations -- let it be others who document them.
