Comment:

 On an unmodified_hdwr XO-1.5 B2 with os104, I typed in the same command
 line as you gave.

 It took a picture - that same picture stayed on the screen thereafter
 (never replaced on the screen by a different one).  'top' showed gst-
 something consuming all available CPU cycles.  I ended execution of this
 command by bringing up Frame, then clicking on 'Stop' in the gst-launch
 icon's (shown as a gray circle) palette.

 My guess as to why I did not get an oops is that I always install xorg-x11
 -drv-v4l on all my XOs.
