 Etoys uses a sampling rate of 11500. I was not sure how to change the rate
 from Scratch, so I hardcoded the rate to 11500 in the SqueakVM, and it
 worked.

 Interestingly, arecord can record at the rate which normal Scratch asks
 from (44100).
