 OK.

 The root cause of this problem was a low-level i2c communications
 misunderstanding in the ov7670 driver; it's been there since the Cafe
 days, but didn't bite as badly then. On the 1.5, it caused sensor
 registers to be trashed when they were read, causing settings like
 horizontal flip to be corrupted. Not good, and a real pain to track down.

 I've just pushed a fix onto my git.lwn.net tree; this is my recommended
 solution to the hflip issue. It will also make it easier to investigate
 gain issues and such.
