 begin-search another-match? and close-search work fine independently.  it
 is only in conjunction with the rest of $copy-all that the filename
 repeats.

 ext2's next-file-info is being called with gradually increasing id values,
 yet $copy-all is seeing repeat file names.

 (i'm puzzled, pausing for the day ... gut feel is that ext2 is not
 reentrant and i'm wasting my time)
