 I believe the fix to this is trivial, but I forgot to take an XO-1 home
 with me to verify it.

 In the spirit of follow-the-sun development -- look at /etc/init.d/olpc-
 configure .  in an xo_1 specific function there will be a series of
 default audio level settings commands.  Add a command which follows the
 other amixer commands and effectively says:

 amixer sset Capture 100

 Remove /.olpc-configured from the root directory of the XO and run
 "/etc/init.d/olpc-configure start" to verify.  {If that doesn't work, this
 section might be using /home/olpc/.olpc-configured; yes there are two flag
 files.}
