 I've done some more testing.

 Record no longer records only a few frames of video.

 A test showed some interesting symptoms.  The subject was a digital clock
 with hours, minutes, and seconds display, within about a foot of the
 laptop.  The quality was set to High.  Recording was started.

 On playback inside Record and using mplayer on a desktop, the seconds
 counter of the display moves faster than real-time.
