 With two open access points nearby, swapping between them by selecting
 them on the neighbourhood view while the laptop was being pinged from a
 desktop yielded periods of ping loss between 9 and 19 seconds.

 Turning off NetworkManager and using a compound shell command to achieve
 the same swapping yielded periods of ping loss between 3 and 6 seconds.
