 encountered by a group of test children
 on build os116 and os117.  actual trigger unknown.

 the activity ceases responding.

 symptom of the hang is that the activity does not redraw on alt/tab, and
 none of the activity UI controls respond.

 workaround for the hang is to close the laptop lid and re-open it.  the
 activity redraws when the system resumes, and begins operating normally
 again.
