 I believe this is a duplicate of #9579.

 I think the "OS ran out of memory" situation arose because the tmpfs for
 /var/cache/yum (which __sits in__ memory) used up all your free memory.
 If this is the situation, it is not a problem with yum, but a compound of
 how /var/cache/yum is allocated, plus what you asked yum to do.
