Comment:

 Actually -- I am of the opinion that we should

  - unset the value - so that it defaults to salut ("under a tree")
 presence
  - test that it is set on registration
  - once it is registered, it should try gabble, and quickly fallback to
 salut

 This will mimic the behaviour of our released OSs, which supports the use
 cases we care about:

  - under a tree / in an AP that is not at school
  - at school
