 did someone do something to fix this?   because the symptom has changed.
 the display blanks (well, mostly -- there's a white stripe at the bottom),
 and the laptop _does_ go to sleep.

 this behavior is pretty much what we'd expect, given that by default we
 leave the display on when we go to sleep.  (this needs to be fixed,
 somehow, of course.)
