Comment:

 I attached a patch for a very simple solution: when starting to play a
 sound, turn the speaker on/off depending on headphones pin-sense.

 The ideal instantly-responsive solution would require switching to
 interrupt-driven interaction with the HDAudio controller as far as I can
 see. Probably not worth it.
