 today, on B3 #18 (with sandisk), i'm seeing a strong correlation with
 whether i've done "echo 9 > /proc/sys/kernel/printk" or not.  with lots of
 logging to the serial port, s/r works fine (manually) for many iterations
 in a row.  with the console silent, it fails on the first cycle.
