 OK, I can now see what is happening.
 There are 2 flaps of black material covering the SD slot internally, which
 are pushed apart when the SD card is inserted.

 On the opposite side of the SD card from where the metal contacts are, at
 the bottom, there is a notch. On the Transcend adapters, this notch is
 formed from where the miniSD card is inserted. On my real Sandisk SD card,
 this is some kind of notch for gripping the card.

 When the card is inserted, one of bits of black material falls into that
 notch, making it very hard to remove the card.

 I can't see why it is different on my other B2.

 Maybe this is just a one-off.
