Comment:

 This is not unusual in my experience.  I haven't dug into why this takes
 so long, but a great example is typing sync after the first boot of a
 freshly installed system.  It takes long enough to go refill your coffee
 or coke...

 While this sync delay is something to explore, I suspect that it is due to
 the affinity of modern Linux for disk caching, and the slow speed of SD
 writes (while still faster than JFFS2).
