Comment:

 triage.

 the errors on the screen snapshot are consistent with I/O errors on the
 root filesystem.

 a 16Gb external SD was attached.  2Gb of that was a swap partition in
 active use by the system at the time of the symptom.

 at 11:23 the plymouth-scripts package was updated, then I/O errors began
 to appear on the internal SD:
