 i happen to know that mikus runs powerd on his XO-1 machines, and is
 asking for similar functionality on XO-1.5.  in the fullness of time, we
 hope to be able to offer that.  when we do, the screen dimming and
 blanking will use a very different mechanism than that which is the
 subject of this bug (and which, indeed, does not work).

 the "blanking" referred to by this bug is DPMS blanking.  i happen to
 disagree with chris about whether it should be fixed or not, because i
 don't think it's our place to predict how the user will use their laptop,
 but i do agree that getting suspend/resume to work is higher priority.

 (i also think we should explicitly disable ("xset -dpms") DPMS in our
 session file, to reduce the visible effect.)
