 Two comments regarding yum behavior (I use yum a lot):

 On the XO-1, there is not enough memory for "large" yum commands.  If
 /var/cache/yum is a tmpfs mount, F11 typically provides between 47 MB and
 25 MB for package downloading.  If /var/cache/yum is not a tmpfs mount,
 more can be downloaded - but a swap partition is often necessary (as well
 as 'yum clean all' to free up memory afterwards).

 On the XO-1.5, it takes a relatively long time to fetch all the repository
 indexes.  If /var/cache/yum is a tmpfs mount, it needs to be re-populated
 after every reboot.  I myself unmount /var/cache/yum - I'd rather have the
 (internal SD card) writes than have that extra wait on the first use of
 yum after a reboot.
