 updated to os38.  X display is now fine.  i've never actually seen the
 corruption mentioned in the bug topic, but jnetlett implied on IRC that
 this would fix the left-edge lockup (#9565).  i'm afraid that's not the
 case for me -- lockup behavior is unchanged.
