Comment:
I should add more symptoms:
On reboot, the laptop was unable to boot (stuck at white screen with arrow
cursor in the middle).
From OFW, a directory of the top level of the boot partition succeeded.
An attempt to fs-update a new filesystem onto the SD card failed after a
few blocks the first time.
A second attempt to fs-update (without a power cycle) failed as well. The
third try (after a power cycle) succeeded, but the system refused to
finish booting Linux. Using a serial port, the following messages were
observed on the console:
[ 9.473944] EXT3-fs: INFO: recovery required on readonly filesystem.
[ 9.490096] EXT3-fs: write access will be enabled during recovery.
[ 10.979517] mmc0: Got data interrupt 0x00100000 even though no data
