 Blame ext4.  This is the expected outcome of ext4 data loss.

 The files in the .sugar directory contain zero bytes, yet have a length
 corresponding to what should have been there.  In particular, owner.key is
 causing Sugar to die.

 I'll attach a file containing /home/olpc/.sugar in three states on os34:

  * after first boot and before any keyboard interaction,
  * after power cycle and before any keyboard interaction, (this state
 exhibited the problem),
  * after the workaround is applied.

 I did a three-way diff with kdiff3, it was very instructive.
