 dsd pointed out linux commit 87057825824973f29cf2f37cff1e549170b2d7e6, and
 dan williams confirms that it will probably fix this issue:

 we should consider backporting this if we don't think we'll get it as a
 matter of course before we ship (it's in 2.6.31-rc1)
