 (Apologies if I am asking obvious or previously answered questions)

 Does fiddling with the DPI value supplied to XFT work ?
 In GNOME, run gnome-appearance-properties -> Fonts -> Details ->
 Resolution. If the value of that is set to something ridiculously low, it
 may be something with the display driver.

 Currently we set the DPI at two places, in

 /home/olpc/.Xresources (via olpc-base.ks)

 and in GConf key /desktop/gnome/font_rendering/dpi (via olpc-desktop.ks)
