Comment(by dsd):

 After reading a little more I am fairly sure that subvendor IDs follow the
 same rules as vendor IDs, hence OLPC would have to pay $10k a year to buy
 a vendor ID before we could create our own. Subproduct IDs are chosen from
 the same namespace as the main product ID.

 I still feel we should ask VIA to assign us one (they'll record it and
 won't use it for other products), then we can program it in from OFW.
