algorithm I use is to search for a stack that doesn't have a "hat" to run.
This seems to work in most cases, but if there are stray bricks on the
canvas, one of them my be played instead of the intended stack. Should I
be running all the stacks (except the ones that have hats)?

How does this impact a use case for 'driving the bus' where you have
several bricks/stacks and you manually run scripts to drive the turtle
about (perhaps like an EtcherSketch). Not sure how common this use case
is, I only noticed it a month or two back, but seems quite nice for
 novices.
