 Some things that need testing:

 * creation of files
 * creation of directories
 * creation of symlinks (if supported)
 * deletion of regular files
 * deletion of directories
 * deletion of symlinks
 * deletion of other things like block and characters special devices,
 fifos, and sockets
 * renaming files within a directory
 * renaming files across directories
 * correct maintenance of link count for such operations

 "Reasonable" (whatever that means) behavior in the presence of options
 like journals.
