 My attempts to get NetworkManager to create this routing entry have been
 blocked by the fact that NM deliberately ignores route configuration for
 link-local connections. Also, Dan Williams suggested that a default route
 should already be created, but that's not happening and I'm not sure if
 he's aware about the arguments against that approach. It looks like this
 won't be fixed today.

 So I've attached a workaround which we could ship. Save it to
 /etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d and mark it executable, then create an
 ad-hoc network.
