 refuse to load if the serial port is enabled"? I'm all for it as it's a
 nice feature for developers to be able to switch back and forth b/w camera
 . As for testability, the code looks fairly simple and is only in the init
 path, not the full data path. Testing it is simple: make sure camera still
 gets initialized at bootup.
