Comment:

 Test attempt; XO-1.5 B2 with os51, rebooted to !OpenFirmware prompt,
 manually downgraded firmware from q3a18 to q3a16a, rebooted, firmware was
 not automatically upgraded, ''About my Computer'' still shows Q3A16a.
