 It's I guess a separate issue, but it might be worthwhile to mention here
 another open bug related to booting off of an SD card.  See bug 9147:

 For me the problems are happening with respect to trying to boot Ubuntu
 off of a Patriot 16 GB Class 6 SD card, although the original poster was
 using a Kingston 8GB Class 4 card, I'm not sure for exactly what.
