 This looks like a plausible explanation for my #8098 ticket.  The slowness
 builds very gradually as activities are launched and exited, until
 eventually we wonder why the XO seems so slow.  I just tried it the past
 hour, and got to 49% CPU for sugar-shell.

 Nice catch!   And I am happy to see that the fix is so easy.  What else
 lurks within Sugar?
