 As seen in another ticket the call to locale -av is unnecessarily memory
 hungry. I'm not sure if it's being hit in this case, but it can waste a
 few mb I think.

 In any case the OOM cannot be caused by that alone. We need to add ps_mem
 statistics to olpc-log.
