 Found it!

 The permissions of ReadEtextsActivity.py are -rwx------, everything else
 seems to have 'r' set for everyone.

 chmod +r ReadEtextsActivity.py
 }}}
 and things work.

 I'm going to put a note on the ReadEtexts talk page. Maybe the owner will
 push a change.

 Meanwhile, is there anyway to make sure that activity packages get
 installed with sensible permissions?
