Comment(by garycmartin):

 Eben just spotted some of you discussion in IRC about wanting to have the
 Journal available immediately, visible and one click away, on boot in the
 Sugar Home view. Very much understand that desire. If Journal is no longer
 an activity, then it's no longer the first Activity to launch and hence is
 no longer the default icon right below the XO at start – but there is
 nothing to say that on boot, or other times when no regular Activity is
 instantiated, you can't just show the Journal search glass icon below the
 XO instead (matching the keyboard icon and the design suggestion image
 above - I do like the existing Journal icon, but it does not match the
 keyboard shortcut). That placement would continue to give the Journal
 immediate visibility at start-up, and in the same place kids/teachers will
 already be looking. It would also re-appear when all normal activities had
 been closed (empty Activity stack), providing an obvious lead-in to the
 Journal to resume other work.

 OT: Actually, could be mildly tempted to try the icon as a filled white
 circle with the looking-glass mask inside, so that the icon matches the
 other frame zoom icon style.
