 That's not how I interpreted that complaint.  I thought the teacher meant
 that they were trying to operate in 6 groups of 2.  I attributed it to
 network congestion failure.

 As for this bug, I just tried it on 8.2-761, and I did not observe a
 crash.  Instead, I observed exactly the desired behavior, in which the
 third person is shown a message, "This Activity already has two
 participants, so you cannot join.", and the original two can continue to
 measure stuff as if nothing happened.

 The logfiles above contain no evidence of hangs, so I am at a loss.  I
 don't know what to do about bugs I can't reproduce or diagnose.
