 It may well be running before we've set up the console unicode fonts,
 since we usually defer that until after prettyboot.

 Check the prettyboot stop script in /etc/init.d for the magic commands,
 and stick the in your script just before you emit your first message (but
 after the NAND-full test, because the font setting will screw up
 prettyboot).
