New description:

 Two laptops that previously were connected to (and registered with) a
 school server were now connected to an access point (Media Lab). One of
 the laptops could see the "environment" around, while the other could see
 only itself. That was witnessed by Michail Bletsas.

 Only after all school server-related lines in the config file were removed
 and machines were rebooted, they started seeing other machines as well as
 themselves.

 This ticket is indirectly related to #7764.
