I find myself ignoring the steady red battery LED warning because blackout
is not imminent enough (familiarity breeds contempt).
If possible, perhaps flash the red LED for the final 1% of battery life,
to tell the user "Save your work NOW you fool!".
Another idea: Instead of an abrupt power-down blackout that wipes the RAM
and loses work-in-progress, maybe do a suspend with red flashing power
LED. Then the user still has some hope of getting to a power source in
time to save work-in-progress, before a final blackout is imposed.
