 Then back to [1] with several of [2] and [3] interspersed, ad infinitum.

 We watched the server's active antenna with tshark for a while, but it
 didn't get anything from that laptop (and plenty from others, so it was
 working).

 0x14e9 is 5353, the zeroconf/avahi port. The server was seeing these
 packets at the same times, so they're not completely disconnected.
