Comment:

 Pushing this out: it can't be used by 8.2 anyway.

 It would be simple to use Avahi (see the attachment), but it might create
 quite a bit of unnecessary network noise.

 Another way would be to have the XOs fetch some ad-hoc http url from a
 NetworkManager hook, which would give a plain text or JSON listing of the
 available services.
