Comment(by thomaswamm):
I have tested and confirmed gnu's hypothesis that ctrl-alt-erase (warm
restart of X/Sugar) will cancel the bug. That's a much easier/faster work-
around than total reboot, and technically simpler than stopping/starting
ohmd.
To prevent the bug, never dim your backlight.
Gnu's description is a good reason to find and fix the bug: "It's truly
annoying, mostly because when it hits you, it keeps hitting you over and
over." It annoyed me so much I learned how to use Trac, just so I could
complain. You gotta fix it somehow.
I am surprised that 1cc is having trouble reproducing the bug. There is
indeed no known mesh, nor other XO's, anywhere near my place. I use a
Linksys wireless router for net access. Perhaps I shall try experiments
with radio off. I almost always have either Browse or Firefox running.
I'll experiment with other activities.
For now, I can say the bug is still reproducible with 8.2-760. And I just
now discovered another clue: the 20-minute screensaver delay is (probably)
a red herring (irrelevant).
Further experimentation yields some surprises & simplifications. This
ticket is so long and confusing, I am going to make a fresh start in a new
ticket...
