Comment:

 If OLPC wants the ability to build laptops or systems that work without
 Mesh, a GUI to select ad-hoc mode (and the wireless channel) will be
 needed to enable collaboration "under a tree" without infrastructure.  See
 #8525.

 I believe the underlying NetworkManager can already handle this -- we just
 need a GUI.

 (I would also recommend adding support at the same time for wired Ethernet
 without infrastructure,
 e.g. plugging two laptops together with an Ethernet cable, or plugging
 five into a switch that does not connect to a server, the Internet, or
 anything else.  The wired and wireless situations are parallel, and future
 OLPC hardware may well have an Ethernet jack built in.)
