 You are right, that was broken. Here is a new patch that fixes the issue.

 Note that unfortunately it shows the previous view for a short time now.
 It seems like the expose event comes in (and is handled) before the
 "showing-desktop-changed" signals gets in. This is at least the case in
 jhbuild.

 One could remove all views when the zoom level is changed to ACTIVITY to
 prevent unnecessary work.
